Awassa Nature Preserve and Hiking Trail - is an easy/beginner trail offering a system of level, shaded trails that meander through stands of mature pines, oaks, maples, and a rich understory of balsam fir. Three hiking loops of varied length provide for pleasurable walking. A ½ mile interpretive nature trail is wheelchair accessible. (Click on the trail map for a printable map PDF 114KB.)

Location: From St. Germain, go west on Hwy 70 approximately 1/2 mile (just past the school entrance). Parking area is on the west side of the highway.

Fern Ridge - is a somewhat rugged, intermediate level trail offering striking contrasts in terrain. Special attention is given to the many wildflowers, trees and non-flowering plants that make the trail beautiful during all seasons, including late season mushrooms. Length: 40 minutes.
Location: From St. Germain, continue north on Hwy 155 approximately 1 mile (just across from Big St. Germain Drive).

Shannon Lake - With a mix of easy/beginner and intermediate loops, about half the trail runs through areas logged in 1976 and 2000. The rest of the gently rolling trailmeanders through a variety of northern hardwoods. The loop around Shannon Lake is especially scenic. Leashed pets are allowed when there is no snow. Length: Trail loops range from 2.3, 3.5 and 7 miles.
Location: From the intersection of Hwy 155 and Lost Lake Rd just north of St. Germain, continue north on Lost Lake Dr to Found Lake Rd. and turn east. Continue to Shannon Lake Rd and a parking area. A second parking area is located on Hwy G approximately 2 miles east of Co Hwy N.
